Exceptional Primary and Secondary Initial Teacher Training

Welcome to Ripley ITT, part of The Bay Learning Trust, and working with our lead partner, South Cumbria ITT.

Our latest OFSTED report (May 2026) rates us ‘Exceptional’ in all areas, noting that trainees and apprentices ‘acquire an impressive body of knowledge and considerable expertise that prepares them remarkably well for their careers in teaching’ (OFSTED, May 2026).

Applications to train to teach from September 2027 open on 10th October 2026; contact us if you have any questions: traintoteach@ripleyitt.co.uk

Our training programmes

If you are already employed in a school setting, perhaps as a Teaching Assistant or Unqualified Teacher, you may be able to keep your employment while you train through our Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship Programme.

We now offer a primary apprenticeship with SEND specialism for those already employed in specialist settings.

If you are employed, perhaps as a TA or unqualified teacher, in a specialist setting, our primary apprenticeship with SEND specialism provides a blend of specialist and mainstream training to effectively prepare you to teach in both sectors. This route enables you to keep your employed post and train whilst in role.

Whether you are a career changer or recent graduate, our provider-led SCITT programmes at both primary and secondary phases may be for you. They combine on-the-job training in our partner schools with focussed sessions with Ripley ITT’s trainers. There may be a tax-free bursary to support your training.

This route is for those already working in a school as an unqualified teacher and meeting the expectations of the Teachers’ Standards who wish to achieve Qualified Teacher Status. It is not a training route.

We are the Regional Delivery Lead for the National Society for Education’s Flourishing ECTs and Flourishing Leaders Programmes. To find out more please use the links below:

Ripley ITT’s Teaching Degree Apprenticeship (TDA) is a 4-year course designed for those who already are working in a primary school and would like to qualify as a teacher but don’t hold a degree. The programme enables employees to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) whilst achieving a degree through our HEI partner.

Why choose Ripley ITT?

The Ripley ITT programme provides an incredibly effective training year through its exceptionally well-structured curriculum and robust support network. Having access to weekly, evidence-informed training sessions allowed me to continually refine my teaching techniques, while the alignment between the providers and placement schools made the learning experience cohesive and highly relevant to my daily practice.”
